I back
up my data regularly, I have a good
tape rotation scheme set up. But,
because I work from home (in a rural
area) I've been struggling with
how to store the backups off site
in a safe haven. AS I don't think
this is ever going to be possible,
anyone got any suggestions for secure
and fireproof storage for use at
home?
A while back, investigating the
viability of offering a RBS (remote
backup service - offsite backup
via modem) here in the UK, I picked
up on the fact that, apparently,
most data safes - even supposedly
good ones - don't actually stand
up to any sort of serious fire.
With this in mind, IMO, you *really* need to get them offsite.
(If you're interested, I can probably point you in the direction of
some very convincing information as to why you should do this)
Out of interest, what sort of amount of data do you need to store, and
how much does this increase by, per backup (assuming you're doing this
incrementally)?
And what do you consider the value of this to be?
More importantly, does your income *rely* on this data?
